Painkiller

a classic rum drink

from the soggy dollar bar

If I could no longer travel, I would live the rest of my days on the island of Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands. There, on a long stretch of white sand beach, you will find the Soggy Dollar Bar.

The Painkiller was first created at the Soggy Dollar Bar by its owner Daphne Henderson in the 1970s. While the recipe is still considered a secret, the generally accepted version is below. It’s a 4-1-1 ratio with Rum to taste – recipes calling for anywhere from 1 to 4 ounces. Drinking one is not enough, but four is too many.

Ingredients

2 oz Pusser’s Rum
4 oz Pineapple Juice
1 oz Orange Juice
1 oz Cream of Coconut

Freshly grated Grenadian Nutmeg to taste

Directions

1) Add liquid ingredients to a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously.
2) Pour into a big glass or goblet filled with ice.
3) Grate fresh nutmeg on top.
4) Garnish with an orange slice and cherry.
5) Enjoy!
